On Saturday January 26, 2013. X RING CUSTOM held their 2nd Annual Coyote Competition with beautiful sunny but cold weather, perfect for any coyote hunter. The area coyotes were on the move since their had been a full moon the night before and the barometric readings had been dropping throughout the day. This year's competition tripled from last year with a total of 39 two person teams from the surrounding counties that checked in a grand total of 29 coyotes for the event.
The competition started early at 4:30 a.m. with the teams coming to X RING CUSTOM to pick up bite sticks and zip ties for each downed coyote. The contest ended at 7:00 p.m. with all of the coyotes checked in and weighted at X RING CUSTOM. The 1st place team with a total of 6 coyotes was Matt Jackson from Toledo and Brian Miller from Olney. A close 2nd place team, with 4 coyotes, was Justin Nice from Teutopolis and Keith McClellan from Sigel. The 3rd place team was Chris Stoneburner from Mason and Dexter Hille from Effingham with 3 coyotes. The biggest coyote weighed 37 pounds brought in by Rudy Knollenberg from Mattoon and Lance Holsapple of Greenup. The FOXPRO Wildfire Electronic Game Call raffle was won by Travis Green from Greenup.
Door prizes were given away while hot chili, sandwiches, and snacks were enjoyed by hunters and spectators along with big (and not so big) hunting stories of the day. X RING CUSTOM is gearing up and planning for a even bigger and better 3rd Annual Coyote Competition in January 2014.
